Do you really know Type-C ?
Some people say that Type-C is the worst interface standard ever. Some people say that Type-C is the best interface standard ever. Since its birth, the debate has not stopped. Let’s talk about the TYPE C data line. The birth of Type-C was not long. At the end of 2013, the rendering of the Type-C connector came out. It was confirmed in the USB 3.1 standard in 2014, and it gradually became popular in 2015. It is a new USB cable and connector specification, is a set of new USB physical specifications, Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc. vigorously promoted, the current mobile phone market in addition to the top one Apple, the mobile phone market should be the world of TYPE C interface!
The evolution of a specification from birth to development is far from a day’s work, especially in the market of consumer products. Today we are going to share the USB 3.1 TYPE C series, USB 3.1 is the latest USB specification, which is sponsored by large company like Intel and so on. The company initiated a new USB technology that uses a more efficient data encoding system and provides more than double the effective data throughput (USB IF Association), which is fully backward compatible with existing USB connectors and cables. USB 3.1 is compatible with existing USB 3.0 software stack and device protocol, 5Gbps hub and device, USB 2.0 product. USB 3.1 Type-C indicates the arrival of the mobile Internet era, more and more devices in this era, —computers, mobile phones, tablets, televisions, e-book readers, and even cars—can be connected to the Internet in different ways, thereby distributing the status of data center of computers previously symbolized by the Type-A interface gradually disappeared. The size of the female port of the Type-C interface is about 8.3mm × 2.5mm, which is smaller than the space occupied by the Micro USB interface. In addition, the most practical change is that Type-C supports the insertion of the female port from both sides.
In theory, Type-C’s USB3.1 maximum data transfer speed can reach 10 Gbit/s, the maximum output voltage is 20 volts, which can shorten the charging time. While the USB-A type, so far the ultimate transfer rate is 5Gbps, the output voltage is 5 volts; the standard specification cable with Type-C connector can pass 5A current, and also supports ‘USB PD’ beyond the existing USB power supply capability, can provide up to 100W of power, in addition to the above improvements, Type -C also integrates DP, HDMI, and VGA interfaces. Users only need a Type-C cable to deal with the trouble of connecting external monitors and video output through using different cables in the past.
At present, Apple’s mobile phone adopts Lightning. Most other mobile phone manufacturers adopt Type-C mobile phone interface, and the future Type-C market will be bigger. After all, USB is the industry standard, except for the mobile phone market, other electronic products (such as computers, TVs and automobiles) all can use Type-C charging function and other protocols (such as DisplayPort protocol, thunderbolt interface protocol, etc.) compatible functions, in fact, many functions can be achieved.
Both DP and HDMI, as well as the consumer interface type C, are working hard to improve themselves, increasing bandwidth can transmit more functions, higher bandwidth can support 4K 8K and future higher resolution and data volume. No matter which interface the equipment manufacturer chooses, it has to face a huge challenge, that is, the wire at both ends of the connection interface is getting shorter and shorter. At this time, users are recommended to consider the latest solution developed by Smartavlink, optical to electronical conversion solution. Smartavlink has successfully developed DP1.4 AOC, HDMI 2.1 AOC, USB 3.0 AOC, Type C Gen2 AOC, etc., realizing high-bandwidth and lossless transmission over long distances.
