The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) announced that the organization has completed the technical specifications for USB 4. These standards will soon be used by designers, engineers and manufacturers, which means we can expect the first USB 4 products to be on the shelves in 2020. Although the USB 4 specification interface has not changed much compared to USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, it will still see some updates. The CES 2020 exhibition, the world’s largest consumer electronics show will be coming. Whether the relevant equipment manufacturers will exhibit the corresponding products at this CES exhibition is worthy of everyone’s expectation.

Currently, the fastest USB standard is USB 3.2, which is still quite rare on consumer devices. USB 3.2 provides data transfer speeds of up to 20 Gbps per second, and USB4 is twice that of 40 Gbps, which is consistent with Thunderbolt 3 .

In addition to improving data transfer speeds, USB 4 will offer other improvements:
1.A variety of data and display protocols to effectively share the maximum bandwidth.
2.Backwards compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.
While USB 4 announced that it is compatible with Thunderbolt, Intel also announced the complete opening of the Thunderbolt technology license, the two will be integrated from the bottom of the agreement, benefit each other: USB 4 can get 40Gbps transmission speed with Thunderbolt 3; Thunderbolt 3 can be accelerated with its own popularity by USB.
Unlike the USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 era, which uses the color interface for intergenerational differentiation, USB 4 does not have this requirement. The traditional A and B interfaces are completely abandoned, and Type-C will become the only existing. Of course, its another big advantage is that it does not distinguish between the front and the back, and can be plugged and removed at will.
In essence, if you have the latest model of the Mac, you will be well-versed in the future of high-end connectivity. USB4 will combine existing Thunderbolt functionality with existing USB standards to create a dual-channel 40Gbps connection that is expected to lead to a unified connectivity device and platform.
Now that the standard has been completed, what remains to be done for the consumer is to implement it on the device. The first consumer-oriented USB 4 products should enter the market in the second half of 2020. This will bring some benefits to computer users:
1.It will improve the charging accessories market. Users will purchase better cables and charging accessories at a lower price.
2.The dongle can have more choices. The USB-IF states that the USB 4 dongle can support multiple USB 4 ports, not just USB-A or HMDI connections.
3.Better connection options. Users can plug multiple USB-C devices into a USB 4 port for better solving data flow.
  4. USB 4 will fully implement the fast charging standard. Anyone using USB 4 accessories will need to use USB charging, which means users can get higher charging efficiency.
In general, consumers can equip any existing USB C device with a USB 4 bus, bringing the speed of Thunderbolt 3 to the daily life. USB 4 will make data backup and transfer faster and easier.
